Government House is excited to offer indoor and outdoor tours of this beautiful National Historic Site.  Learn about the history, heritage and ecology of Government House and the Edwardian Gardens.

Government House offers a wide variety of educational programming for all ages. Each program is designed to engage students with an array of activities to help them learn the history of Government House and Saskatchewan.

On-site Programs

This guided program introduces the differences between the Victorian home and today's home while drawing comparisons to the lifestyle of Victorian children and children today.

This guided program introduces the role of the Lieutenant Governor at the turn of the 20th century while providing insight into life as Saskatchewan entered Confederation. 

This option, while providing the same program as above, allows students to take a tour with a Visitor Experience Host in the persona of a staff member, resident or visitor at Government House in 1905. Students will “step back in time” and enjoy a tour from a maid, butler, or perhaps one of the Forgets themselves!

Add On Tours

Available Late May until Early October

This guided program explores the 8.5 acres of Edwardian Gardens that surround Government House. Students will learn about the different wildlife and plant life that call the area home and learn about the importance of each of them in our day-to-day lives. Focus will be on pollinators, medicinal plants, and hybridization.

Available for October Only

This guided program replaces a guided tour of the museum and focuses on occurrences that staff and visitors have shared throughout their time at Government House.

This guided program tours the Interpretative Centre and examines how the role of the Lieutenant Governor has evolved since the 19th Century.

This guided program tours the Interpretative Centre and examines how Government House has been utilized since 1891.

Activities Pre-K - Gr. 4

These scavenger hunts are based on the season (i.e.: Halloween, Easter, etc.) and can take place inside or outside depending on the weather.

These crafts will complement the chosen programs and will be age-appropriate.

Let your students have some fun in our Once Upon a Time Playroom. Filled with a number of toys, puzzles and books, your class will entertain themselves before or after a tour of the building.

Select from croquet, bocce ball, cricket and Frisbee. Rules will be provided for your class to enjoy fresh air on our 8.5 acres of land.

Activities Gr. 5 - Gr. 12

These scavenger hunts are based on the season (i.e.: Halloween, Easter, etc.) and can take place inside or outside depending on the weather.

Students are tested on Canadian, Saskatchewan and Royal knowledge. This adaptation of the board game can be played in two formats: 

  • Giant Board Game; or
  • Jeopardy style trivia game

These crafts will complement the chosen programs and will be age-appropriate.

Available April to November

This program allows students to utilize their problem solving skills by answering questions around the Edwardian Gardens by using a geocaching device.
