Named after former Lieutenant Governor Henry Newlands in January 2005, the ballroom was was built during his tenure in 1928. He was the province’s longest-serving lieutenant governor (1921-1930). During his time in office, he focused his attentions on the rights and rehabilitation of veterans. The ballroom would later serve as an 18-bed ward for convalescing veterans from 1945 to 1957.

Today the ballroom serves many purposes. The Lieutenant Governor and Premier host award presentations and various ceremonies. The Government House Historical Society hosts public teas and other events. The Regina Symphony Orchestra even holds a concert series here.
