Upper Hall

This is where many of the guests could relax while festivities continued in the main hall down below. Around the railing, chaperones would keep a watchful eye on the couples downstairs. The chaperones did not want their charges to slip off unseen into a room by themselves or dance too close.

The skylight above the centre well provides soft, diffused daylight through the centre of the house. A roof above the skylight protects it from the elements and has windows on all four walls. The interior space above is painted silver and creates an indirect lighting effect.

Haunted Mirror
Many people have observed strange occurrences at Government House. Doors open and close, items move, and voices are heard when there is no one around. Others have seen eerie faces next to theirs when looking into mirrors. A mirror in this hall often sways back and forth for no identifiable reason.
